buddha house garden
Early drawings for a garden design project in Lansing, Iowa. The garden was an offering to my first teacher who established a retreat land there, up high on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. The garden surrounded The Buddha House, a timberframe construction building which houses a significant statue of the Buddha.
I oversaw the excavation, completed the hardscaping, planned, acquired and planted the plantings throughout the garden. The garden features a dry retaining wall using rocks found on the land. It required significant effort and the initial phase was finally completed with significant help from sangha brothers and sisters in June 2012.
