Life-hand reliquary

This artist book is modeled after a well known historical binding, The Stonyhurst Gospel. The dimensions and construction (sans endband and materials) replicate that of the Stonyhurst. Created for the Lineage of a Master Exhibition (tribute to Bill Anthony) in 2005.

Having studied under Larry Yerkes, an apprentice of Bill Anthony, I am descendent within the lineage.

Indigo pigmented calf skin. Red goat skin interweaving on front cover. Relief of Myrabalan plant on front cover, and incut of hand milagro on back. Text block comprised of indigo dyed lokta paper. Endband is the artist’s adaptation of a historical endband, and implemented in hand dyed cotton indigo thread.

Leaving None Unturned

Leaving None Unturned

An artist book based on the historical medieval vade mecum structure, while using sewing and laminated papryus boards (reminiscent of coptic structures).

This book was created for Wells College Matter & Spirit exhibition, 2004. The content presents an aspect of my spiritual path; engaging in self reflection (“leaving no stone unturned”) and transforming afflictive habits and mindsets into wisdom. Additional content images will posted within the 2021 year.

Papyrus boards. Handmade paper, printed, indigo pigmented, embossed, and punched with small grommets. Mixed papers, ink and print technology. Indigo dyed vintage cotton for straps. Flax sewing thread. Tooled spiral burned in front cover with hot wire.
